UPDATE on BLANKO

Dear Supporters,

We are writing to give you the latest information of the plight of Blanko the Orangutan held at the Melke Hotel in Lovina, Bali. Many thanks for expressing an interest in helping Blanko.
We can now confirm that Blanko has been handed over to the authorities by Pak Kalle, the owner of the hotel. Blanko has been sent to the new Bali Safari Park. SOS had been in delicate negotiations with Pak Kalle, and had offered to financially support Blanko’s repatriation to Kalimantan, and rehabilitation through the Nyaru Menteng Rescue Centre, operated by the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation. Unfortunately this offer has not been accepted, despite the fact that the centre was ready to accept Blanko, and could have offered him a chance of returning to the forest.

A sunbear and a langur monkey were also handed over to the authorities at the same time as Blanko. SOS Bali will be keeping an eye on the conditions under which Blanko is kept in the Safari Park.
